Dallas Bay Fire & Rescue kicked off their first annual fire camp for students on Monday. This camp provides an opportunity for students 13-18 years old to learn basic skills used in the fire service and exposes them to a new way to serve the community. Students will be educated in several different skills including: CPR and Basic First Aid, Firefighting Equipment and Search & Rescue, Water Supply and Hydrant Operation, Rescue Tools, and Ladder skills.
Dallas Bay Fire Prevention Officers stated, "As our students become more and more distracted by technology, it is vital that agencies like ours work to build relationships with students and make sure they know what to do to help others in an emergency. Skills taught in this camp will allow them not only to learn what it is that the fire department does, but more importantly what they can do to help someone in an emergency beyond calling 911 and waiting for help."
Camp will continue through this week culminating in a skills competition on Saturday where campers will be divided into teams and compete with each other using skills learned through the week.
Dallas Bay Fire & Rescue, founded in 1975, exists to provide fire & rescue services, EMS first responder services, and water rescue services to the citizens in their assigned district of unincorporated Hamilton County along with the City of Lakesite.
