Resident Suffers Severe Burns in Hixson Apartment Fire

On Wednesday evening at 7:18 p.m., Dallas Bay Fire & Rescue units were dispatched to the Ellie Plaza Apartments in the 8000 block of Hixson Pike following reports of an apartment fire.

Upon arrival, crews confirmed a kitchen fire in one of the units, with the resident actively attempting to extinguish the flames. Firefighters ensured the fire was fully extinguished and confirmed it had not spread beyond the appliance.

According to incident command, the resident had preheated the oven unaware that something flammable was already inside, which ignited. When the oven door was opened, the resident was quickly overcome by smoke and heat.

Dallas Bay EMS personnel provided initial medical care. Upon arrival, Hamilton County EMS assumed care and transported the resident to a local hospital for treatment of severe burns to the face and airway.

Due to smoke damage, the unit is not habitable. Damages are estimated by Command at $10,000.
